The National Audubon Society convened a task force to address the issue across the country. In order to protect the health and well-being of our staff, volunteers, and visitors and to help stop the spread of COVID-19, we are closing all indoor areas of our center until further notice . We hope to reopen no later than March 30, but we will continue to monitor the situation with direction from Audubon, the City of San Antonio, and CDC. We encourage you to come visit our outdoor space and enjoy fresh air and nature—bring along your kids and walk the trails. It is the beginning of migration season and the birds are singing. Look for cardinals, orioles, and hummingbirds as you walk around the gardens. Entry is free during this time; there will be signage asking you check-in via your smart phone and maps and a donation box available on the front porch. Staff will be onsite to assist in case of emergency, but will not interact with visitors directly for the safety of all. We enjoy your visits to the Center and ask that your join our efforts to maintain a safe environment for all by staying home if you are feeling ill or believe you may have been exposed to the virus. At this time, all scheduled events will be postponed or move a digital format. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at MLAC@audubon.org . As we all take responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19 please remember to bring hand sanitizer, practice safe social distancing of 6-10 feet, and do NOT share binoculars. Hours will continue to be Tuesday to Sunday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Connecting people with nature Photo: Justin Moore Outdoor education, conservation, and world-class birding on reclaimed natural habitat – leaders on the south side of San Antonio Our wetland habitat is one of the last critical stopover grounds before the Texas Coast, where 98.5% of long-distance migratory bird species in the US pass through, many which are about to fly for hours or days over open ocean. Not only are we one of the best spots for birding in San Antonio, we also open our doors to more than 4,000 students annually for outdoor science and conservation education, which most students do not get in traditional schooling. So, come explore our habitat, walk our native gardens, take a class or a tour, volunteer, or give your support to our education and conservation programs. Whatever your age or interests we have a way to help connect you the wild and beautiful natural place we live, just far enough south of downtown to melt away everyday life.
